Like many of our AAT students I did not begin my career in Accountancy. I have had a variety of job roles and experiences from the early 1990s from delivering HR and H&S training for a key supplier to Marks & Spencer, Tesco and Asda, and a brief stint as a trainee police constable.
In addition, I was a computer programmer for a national newsagents and accountancy software support for established model agencies. Whilst I could programme the accountancy software, I had no idea what a trial balance was or why it was even necessary for the debits to equal the credits.
This is where I soon realised I needed to get some accountancy knowledge and fast! And so began my career path towards an accountant. I truly believe that my story demonstrates that anything is achievable if you have the mindset to succeed. Outside of teaching AAT to our students I am an avid ABBA fan – I have seen Mama Mia over 30 times.
I have a ‘flair’ for all things 70’s and am a red wine connoisseur and love to travel .
